As a school teacher who got a B in English GCSE, I have to admit something. I disliked reading. Nothing interested me, I often skipped lines, ended up skimming the text, went into a daydream or go off in thought. I had to read the text through a couple of times as I didn’t find them particularly easy to comprehend, I didn’t like the subjects of many books, especially if they were fiction. But now a golden leaf has turned…I thoroughly enjoy reading. I have found the magic of reading books. I have finally found subjects that interest me. It’s only taken forty years!
Over the last year, I have been on a journey of self discovery as I was on a mission of healing. I have read more books in one year than I have in about twenty years. The two books that got me hooked into reading were ‘The Secret’ and ‘The Magic’ by Rhonda Byrne, which were recommended to me.
They were the shining light that I needed and they answered many questions. I was hooked! From there, I read books linked to manifesting, meditation, healing limiting beliefs, yoga, spirituality, crystals, healing health, developing mindsets in particular topics, lunar cycles, healing the home and seasonal living. To develop my learning, I listened (and still do) to many podcasts and watched some YouTube videos. All these books, podcasts and videos lead me into various avenues of self discovery. One of which is life purpose.
Have you ever wondered what your soul purpose is in life? I am sure you have had days wondering what your purpose is. As my husband says on the odd occasion, “All I feel is I am here to work.”
I believe that my life soul purpose is to be artistic and inspire others to find their creativity. When I am in my studio, I don’t feel like I am at work because I love it so much. My soul feels so connected and contented as I am doing something that gives me joy - creating art and helping others. I feel so much gratitude when I am supporting others to find their creativity or when I am exploring and playing around with art techniques, dabbling in my sketchbooks and painting compositions.
How do I know being an artist and an art teacher is my soul purpose?
I focused on joy. When I selected my A Levels and degrees, I chose subjects that gave me joy. It’s funny now I look back, that all of my subjects chosen, I use in my self employed business. I certainly didn’t plan for this business to establish. Since I started painting again in 2013 to the present, it was almost like it was meant to be. I just followed the journey that was unfolding step by step. I have been continually grateful for everything that has evolved over the last few years: From my first commission, to my first client, from the art exhibition to winning an art competition.
So, how can you discover your soul purpose?
Sit quietly, meditate and listen to you. Journal and write down the things that give you joy. What drives your desires? If it is a career you are looking for, what could help or serve other people? What could earn you money, so you can survive in life? If you could do anything in the world, what would you do? What worries you or stops you from doing what you want to do? There could be limiting beliefs that need addressing to help you be successful with your ‘joy.’
If you want to share your discoveries or talk about what brings you joy, then I would love it if you could leave a comment.
Take care,
